Classmates.com to pay $9.5 million for deceptive acts

Seattle-based Classmates.com agrees to pay $9.5 million to class action plaintiffs in In re Classmates.com Consolidated Litigation, filed in Western Washington U.S. District Court.

The settlement compensates Classmates.com registered users who received emails fabricated by Classmates.com in the guise of a past classmate reaching out to reconnect.  Classmates.com has millions of registered users, of which many relied upon Classmates.com’s misrepresentation that it would reconnect users with past classmates.  This is a violation of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA).
