Philip Morris: Tobacco Litigation? “Cost of Doing Business”

A Florida state court jury awarded Plaintiff Naugle $300 million.  Ms. Naugle started smoking at age 20, and quit by age 45.  Now 61 years-old, she suffers from severe emphysema and needs a lung transplant.  Ms. Naugle requires 24-hour oxygen supply and must travel by wheelchair.

The jury awarded Ms. Naugle $56 million in compensatory damages and $244 million in punitive damages after a three-week trial and three hours of jury deliberation in Broward County Circuit Court.

Phillips Morris intends to appeal the verdict.
