Courts, a part of our vast legal system in the United States, are tasked to be unbiased and to “uphold justice.” However, in tort law, where one party has inflicted permanent physical harm upon another, the only available restitution is money. So, how much money brings justice and fairly compensates the injured? In other words, how much money “makes the plaintiff whole?” That is the jury’s task. In a recent case in California Superior Court, the jury awarded $45 million to the plaintiff and her husband.
